DART_RemoteSensing_NERC_LiDAR

DART were granted a series of airborne surveys by NERC ARSF. These surveys were conducted on 14/06/2011 (Diddington only), 23/03/2012 & 20/06/2012 (both sites), and comprised vertical aerial photography, Hyperspectral imagery and LiDAR / Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS). This description pertains to the LiDAR / ALS data. These were acquired using a Leica ALS50-II scanner with the upgrade to full waveform. Datasets collected during 2012 were all full waveform.

resource.description LiDAR data collected by NERC ARSF and processed by NERC ARSFDAN using the Leica ALS50-II sensor. The ALS50-II operates with a 8W class 4 laser with radiation at 1064 nm. It works by firing a pulse every 4ns or 9ns and measuring the round trip time to when a reflection is detected. This is then converted into a distance. There are 2 banks of timing cards - each one with 4 cards. This means that it can measure up to 4 independent returns for each pulse (it only uses the 2nd bank of cards when operated at the higher pulse rate). A minimum time separation between two returns means the minimum distance between two returns must be at least 2.7m for them to be counted as independent. The data here contain upwards of 12 hits per m squared if overlapping flightlines are considered. The data supplied here are seperated into three datasets. _DOC contains the documention fro each flight, _LAS are the LAS 1.3 files containing the full-waveform information and _TXT contains the discrete survey data converted to ASCII text files.
