resource.descriptionSpectra collected with the Analytical Spectral Devices FieldSpec Pro spectro-radiometer for the monitoring of the formation of archaeological vegetation marks as part of the DART project. The spectra were recorded along GNSS located transects over known archaeological features. The spatial and temporal frequency of recording is variable as this technique is highly dependant on local weather condition, and windows of opportunity can be somewhat constrained. Ideally three readings were acquired every 30cm along the transect, from a height of 1.4m above the ground surface, on nadir with a nominal 23 degree field of fiew. Reflectance values were compared to those recorded from a barium sulphate reflectance panel. Readings were recorded within two hours either side of solar noon. The exact field of view is unknown, as this is for the bare fibre-optic cable. This creates some uncertainty as to the exact area sampled. In addition the difficulty inherent in obtaining spectra under stable illumination conditions means that some of the resultant spectra may be of relatively poor quality. This can be evaluated using the deviation between the ideal value of 1 and the readings recorded of the white reference panel. The data referenced here are organized by transect: site, then day, following the project naming convention. All sites except HHQF have a single transect. In HHQF two transects have been surveyed: these are suffixed with T1 and T2 respectively. Withn this structure the data comprise: /database - these are triples intend for database import. This has three fields; reading ID, wavelength and reflctance / radiance value. /raw_spectra These are the raw data directly exported from the ASD viewspec software, These files have been renamaed according to the reading_id reading_info. This contains a single *.txt file containing the salient information for each reading. This comprises; reading idenifier, transect identifier, position along transect, reading type (REF = reflectance, WRP = white reference panel reading, DEL = deleted / void reading), reading coordinate x, reading coordinate y (both in OSGB 1936 / ESPG 27700), date, time, instrument identifier, which optices were used, time dark current measurement was acquired, time white reference calibration was acquired.

The transects were 10-15m long over features generally less than 3m wide on the surface. However, most surveys were collected under less ideal conditions, so have a lower spatial sampling desnsity.
